Letters to the Editor

Some of the letters received that deserve special attention concerning the elections just held. If any would like more info leading up to these events or some background, send e-mail to advocate@kay-net.com. It should be noted that Mr. Kay sent the staff a letter explaining that he was not referring to them. That letter was also made available to those who dropped by.

Letters were edited for spelling and lit grammar (periods, commas, etc … ).

You may notice some folks either used an alias or ask only to be initialed. Some asked for the town to be with held as well. Small towns have a way to getting back at you if you speak out. While it may be America, not everyone is free to speak their mind without some repercussion!

To The Advocate

In response to the Letter to the Editor from the staff at Lo Inyo as printed in the Inyo Register. Mr. Kay comments were definitely directed toward Job Skills, which are taught at High School Level. Why would an Elementary school go to such lengths as you have to comment on something that wasn’t even about you? I notice that the other schools in the district didn’t have a part in you letter nor the High School which was directed. Seems you have a chip on your shoulder about something else and were using Mr. Kay as a political target. With all your elite activities when do you have the time to teach the basic skills? I also understand a task force is being sent to try to figure out why 4th grade math scores are lower than the rest of the United States. Maybe you are trying to use Mr. Kay as a diversion from your lack of quality education?

I spoke to Mr. Kay and read what he sent to the Inyo Register as well as the response sent in by the staff and administration at Lo Inyo. I am glade my kids no longer go there. I would hate to have a them taught by a group that can’t read. As the election showed, Mr. Kay got almost 1/3 the folks who voted and those who didn’t shame on you. I don’t think Mr. Kay was so far off in his ideas and words that a whole Elementary School had to make such a rude and rash comment. I also talked to several who do have kids going to Lo Inyo and they are not impressed at the low end technology program they are trying to hype up. Even some of the parents told me their kids where not the elite few who could use the computers. I was told that Lo Inyo used mostly Macs and the high school used PC’s which cause the students to have learning problem when trying to go between them both. Another though that comes to my mind is who uses Macs except elementary schools? I can’t see how Mr. Kay’s response on job skills could even be thought of at Lo Inyo a elementary school.

In response to the letter in the Inyo Register about your editor Mr. Kay. I read the reply he gave to the register and I can see how Lo Inyo may have felt they was being singled out. I think however that Mr. Kay was talking about higher education and college bound. Seems Lo Inyo must think they are the only school in the district. I have only one question for Lo Inyo, did you contact Mr. Kay and find out he was referring to you? If he was, he didn’t word it right for me to catch that!

Who ever prints letters

I am highly upset about what I read from a school concerning a person who ran for school board to get some job skills in the school. I ask these brain dead liberal art majors who need a warm fuzzy feeling, " Who do you think you are?". I called my daughter in Lone Pine and asked her what was going on. She said the schools here are getting worst than when I was in school. The student grades say one thing, the test they take state wide say another. What is worst is the lack of computer skills being taught after they fired Mr. Kay. They never gave a reason why they fired him. My family visits Lone Pine often, we plan on letting a few have our feelings soon. If I was still living in Lone Pine, I would have voted for Mr. Kay. Seems he is the only one who has balls enough to say anything! Maybe that is why they want him gone!

Put in letter to The Advocate

I was a student at both schools, Lo Inyo and Lone Pine High School. I received only marginal training at Lo Inyo and even less at the High School. The only classes I found that prepared me was Mr. Kay’s and Susan Lutze’s. I am highly ashamed that the teachers at Lo Inyo had even a harsh word to say against Mr. Kay after all he did to help them. Must be pick on Mr. Kay time of the year. I remember when I did something wrong and the whole staff jumped on me like the are doing Mr. Kay. My advice to Mr. Kay is to get out of Lone Pine. Leave those hicks behind.

Put in paper

Too bad Mr. Kay doesn’t live here. I would like to have someone like him on the school board, even when a whole school hates him. I think he would see to it they did their job. Mr. Kay, move up here soon.

Who would have ever thought a Elementary school should get involved in politics. I think those people should be like the church and stick their noses in their own matters. I don’t want my child being brained washed at school.

Note from the Editor.

I received or was hand delivered several more. Some from students who had similar comments and contained language best left to an Adult Site. I also was handed one that spoke in favor of the statements written by the folks at Lo Inyo. However it was one of those with language that would best be left at an Adult Site. That person was handed the reply given to the register from Mr. Kay that the Staff there replied to. The person then decided that the staff read something into it that wasn’t there. That persons action next was to pull the letter. In fact tore it up and placed it in a suitable circular file before leaving.
